The town of Gata de Gorgos has rescued and revived the popular tradition of placing damasked or embroidered sheets of cloth on balconies during processions, which until recently was a very deeply rooted tradition in the region of the Marina Alta. This tradition has given birth to the Art al Vent festival, promoted by the Escuela de Plàstica Experimental.
Art al Vent is currently the most important open-air textile art exhibition in Spain, with a considerable international presence, the proof of which can be seen in the contributions made by Spanish and international artists.
The event covers the balconies of Gata de Gorgos with printed and decorated textiles made by artists in an exhibition that lasts three weeks. The importance of this event can be seen in the makeup of the international jury of artists, and in the growing media attention and number of visitors every year.
